OH NO...NOT ANOTHER LIQUOR STORE !!
One major problem plaguing most, if not all, inner-city communities is the over abundance of liquor stores. It appears as if no one is even concerned about it.The affect that it is having on the communities is major devastation.
When a person loses hope what do they have left? You may or may not have heard this before, but the descent into drugs usually begins with alcohol. My opinion ,on every subject that I discuss, will always be Christian-based, because I am a Christian.
Bearing this in mind, you can probably understand it when I say I would like to see the whole world free of liquor stores. That is not going to happen ,so I say if we've got to have them, after all, they're perfectly legal,by law,at least start limiting the number of them.
Everyone can benefit from having a convenience store close by,from time to time, but it is not good for communities to have alcoholic beverages so convenient that you walk out of your front door, cross the street, and enter the liquor store.
With all of the problems facing poor people, the temptation to try to escape through alcohol, substance abuse, and gambling is pretty strong.Speaking of strength, it has been said that a community is only as strong as their weakest link.In that case,we cannot really afford any weak links, can we?
Communities make up cities, cities make up countries etc. So I hope you get the picture. If we sit silently by, while store owners fill our young people, and some older ones as well, with alcohol, then obviously we don't care.I do care ,so this is my initial contribution toward creating dialogue that will set the stage to solve the problem.
Just in case you are not aware that these liquor stores can be permanently eradicated from your community google Senator / Rev.James Meeks of Chicago and read about how he accomplished just that very thing, through sheer hard work and determination.
It seems as though the liquor stores are the new community centers where the young people meet.It makes me sick,we,they deserve better, much better!!!
