Breaking My Heart
1)
Didn’t hear the pops
Didn’t get shot
But it pierced my heart just the same
Same ole story
Pain - no glory
Another face with just another name
"That no - good # *!
Why’d he have to pull the trigger"
Is what a lot of people will say
Now his momma’s there crying
Like he’s the one dying
And he is in his own way
But I understand
It’s all been planned
And it’s coming straight from hell
Somebody’s dying
And somebody’s crying
And the killer is dying as well
What can we do
To help our youth
To change their wicked ways
The WORD tells me
Specific’ly
That we must learn to pray
Well LORD I’m praying
And I’m just saying
We need YOUR help today
JESUS taught us how to love
We messed that up
And this is how our children play
2)
Where’s Doctor King
Can’t hear a thing
And the silence speaks so loud
So many preaching
Calling on JESUS
Do they even know what He’s about
JESUS went seeking
With HIS hands out - reaching
We’re s’posed to be like HIM
But a light on a hill
Cannot fulfill
The promise if it’s too dim
Open up your heart
Stop being hard
And let the light shine through
Whatever you send out
Without a doubt
Is coming right back to you
Try being forgiving
Let’s stop this killing
We are our Brothers' keeper
The price of hate
Is a heavy weight
The cost of love is cheaper
It makes no sense
This violence
Is hurting us one and all
An enemy
That we can’t see
Is plotting our downfall
3)
Who’s at fault
Were they ever taught
Or thrown right into this
We had our teachers
Ole - time preachers
Grandparents when parents missed
Now we shake and shudder
While they’re killing each other
Afraid of our own babies
So short on love
They didn’t get from us
It’s all just learned behavior
Let’s redeem ourselves
While there’s still time left
And GOD will do the rest
If we don’t start trying
They’ll keep on dying
What else can we expect
Let’s teach the children
The SAVIOR’S risen
Who died for you and me
And if we claim HIM
Then all this mayhem
Has no choice but to cease
Let’s start right now
And make a vow
To learn to love each other
This hurts too much
Please give it up
And stop this killing one another
